Crestview School District 2068 opened to the first student in June of 1921. It closed in April of 1967 and rural students were bused to Swan River. I was fortunate to be visiting at the time of the reunion in 1991. My older brothers went there, but I never attended Crestview School. I went to McVey, School District 2303, and Crestview were our sports rivals in baseball and winter soccer. They were formidable. Immediately below is a slide show, you will have to scroll down to read the longer captions. And, as always, if anyone wishes to provide further information on unidentified souls in the photographs, please do so in the comments section.

Hi Rob,
I really enjoyed these … Swan River has been on my mind recently because my cousin Carol Paulson Allard passed away last week and she and her parents were the reason for my few family visits to Swan. I know that her brother Irv is a friend of yours. And the Minish’s made me think of Trish.
Your photo records are precious depictions of special times in the life of our communities. Hoping all is well and sending good wishes for 2019!

Thank you Joanne. I hadn’t heard of Carol’s passing and will be in touch with Irv and Delilah. Mervyn Minish is Trish’s father. All good wishes for you and yours in the new year.

Hi Rob,
You’ve captured the spirit for all of us who remember small town and school reunions. The faces and names may be different but the rural personalities, hats and hair seem universal.
What’s with “winter soccer”? Don’t tell me you were too poor to buy skates.
Seeing that the photos are from 1991, a shout out to all those that may remember me at MMMN that year (’91-’92).

Thanks Hugh… winter soccer was our rural intramural winter game… played with a basketball as I recall… whatever the field conditions… if it had snowed it was tough slogging for the first bit. I think the extreme sports genre is missing out with winter soccer. There were other hazards… I spent the afternoon lying in the cloakroom after initially blocking Barbara Franks scoring attempt with my groin. She went on to score on the second attempt. Ah, the unfairness of life. I have an interesting story of my skates, but will save that one for later.

Rob – thanks so much for these photos from what appears to have been an awesome event. I recognized more than a few familiar faces. Running through this collection, I never realized until now that the valley had such a large Scandinavian component. Thanks again. Cousin Ron
