“Another one rides the bus” Weird Al Yankovic
I took these photographs c.1979-81. “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” the unofficial creed of postal employees could apply equally to buses. In the winter months, especially in Winnipeg, buses are heroic. Appearing through the fog of breath and exhaust to rescue hunched shouldered, watery eyed fares.
For some of these photographs, I am shooting from the hip or chest level without looking through the viewfinder. It is not as random as it sounds. The camera is manual focus which means; a subject must be selected and the camera pre-focused before the point and shoot part can be accomplished. These photographs are, arguably, the successful ones.
It has been suggested to me that these photographs are intrusive and, in truth, Winnipeg Transit may have rules in place prohibiting photography on their buses. I did not ask permission. Please comment if you have any opinions on this or observations on the photographs.

These are great, Rob. A favourite is the blurry bus and focused pedestrian with The Bay in the background, but the interior shots are fine too. I used to live riding a pumpkin from the burbs to Portage Ave on Saturday morning to shop around.
Thank you Glen
A candid look at cold, close up. Very interesting, Rob!
Thank you Jo Anne
Really like the one with the bus driver in the rear view mirror on Vaughn. Great series of pics!
Thank you Matthew
