Sucker Run 1981

Fishers netting Suckers on the Shell River, near Asessippi Park Mb. There are several species of Sucker fish in Manitoba; White Sucker, Silver Redhorse, Golden Redhorse, Shorthead Redhorse, Bigmouth Buffalo and Quillback. The Shell river is home to White Suckers.

All of the fishers are using a mesh nets in more of a dipping fashion. When I was a child, the nets we used were made from chicken wire as it would remain rigid and the fish would swim upstream into them. Just sayin’.

The photographs in this series were taken on Easter Monday 1981.
