Stormy Weather

Stormy Weather is the second component of a 1988 exhibit titled Any Reproduction. The first component, the Lost Red Paint Scrolls, meant to evoke a cultural history and shared ritual. The third, Walking on Earth is an optimistic response to an uncertain future. The thirteen images of Stormy Weather represent the turbulence and transition of the present.

All prints are bleached, hand coloured photographs.  Each measures approx. 23×33 cm (9×13″)

  1. Your subtly fluid composition, your peculiar-to-you use of the edges to compose and convey emotion along with movement is simply masterful Robert. If mimicry is considered flattery, consider yourself flattered Robert — I have tried to emulate your ability to “use the edges” since first picking up on your ability to do that in the 1970s. It has served me well even if I have never equalled your talent in this way. I was wondering how you would serve up the “optimism”, and damned if your use of colourization and bleaching has not achieved that in a marvellously accomplished manner. In my opinion, some of these images would not, should not evoke optimism were it not for your admirably applied technique. Brilliant Rob! I love this collection. LOVE IT.

  2. The cyclist entering from left … moves me along with and too somewhere else.

That’s beautiful. The colours are gorgeous.
I like reading the comments of Brent … they help me understand better.

  3. Hi Rob, here again, looking at more. That comment of Brent’s about “using the edges” is very interesting. I’d never thought of that precisely.
The notes yellow, turquoise and green in this one …. https://misterbarrow.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/DSC_0936.jpg
are pretty … comes the idea first of a flapper dressed in yellow, with black cloche and blue stole, near pirouette, wonderfully contrasting with industrialised architecture and the hurried intentions of the woman in foreground.
