This is one of the first times that I photographed an event on spec, at the suggestion of Dr. Katherine Pettipas, while working at the Manitoba Museum. I got my ticket on a Museum excursion to the Roseau River Pow-wow. I had previously attended an indoor pow-wow at the Winnipeg Convention Center. This was my first under the prairie sky.

I love that picture of the young girls shown in profile. Amazing to think that those young girls will now probably be senior citizens.
Thank you so much Rob. Strange … I remember the day, being there, the scene, the people, so many details… but not that I’d gone with an MMMN group! Yes, like Wendy, I am struck by the young women in profile. Also many others. All this seems like it could be a rare document, no?
My favorite is the one of a woman (his mom?) fixing something on a young boy’s costume. She is not looking at what she is doing, but the elder (the grandmother?) is.
(I remember the pics more than I remember the day, and that’s a pretty funny and somewhat embarrassing thing to admit. An overwhelming day, no doubt! lol )
