Photograph at McVey school reunion by Ed Barrow
McVey School No. 2303
The McVey School District was organized formally in October 1942 and a schoolhouse operated at the southwest corner of NW9-37-29W. The district was dissolved in 1967 and its catchment area became part of the Swan Valley School Division
McVey school was my Alma mater. Grades one to eight. It closed after that year and all students were bussed to Swan River. The school site was approximately 4 acres within which were; the school, the teacherage, concession booth, outdoor toilets, a stable, ball diamond, soccer/football field and a small woods. A row of caragana shrubs surrounded the school yard on three sides. Beyond that were farm fields.
I had four teachers in my time there; Peter Manzuk (5 years), Mr. Derwentchuk (?) (partial year), Mrs Dunnit (partial year) and Mrs. Legace (2 years). Mrs. Legace always made sure that the monthly bag of books sent out from “town” had a couple on the Arctic for me. An indulged obsession at the time.
The reunion was organized by Reg Daum.
